Suspected armed robbers arrested at Savannah Bank
The incident occurred around 8.30am on Friday at the bank’s head office in Broad Street, Lagos Island.
The suspects who were all teenagers are – Ibrahim Luka, Kunle Malik, Sheriff Lawal, Tunde Basiru, Arif Sarumi, Lukman Ojikutu and Fidelis Joshua.
They were burgling the building before policemen swooped on them following a tip-off from angry residents.
“Distress call was received from Ikeja control room that some armed robbers were operating at Savannah Bank, Broad Street. The policemen stormed the area and these boys were arrested,” a police source said.

Boys 9, 13 kills 8 year old classmate in China because they were bored
A gang of 11 boys beat to death their eight-year-old classmate because they were bored, Chinese police said today.
The
boys, aged between nine and 13, allegedly attacked Zhang Tai in the
street just near the city of Zhangjiakou in north-west China's Hebei
province.
They reportedly beat him up, before leaving his battered and bruised body lying beside the road.
Police said the gang had confessed to killing their classmate after deciding they were bored and looking for something interesting to do.

Two injured as new school building collapses In Osun
Residents
of Ejigbo town in Osun State were on Wednesday woken up by the noise of
the structure which collapsed at the newly completed Ejigbo High
School.
Our correspondent gathered that part of
the school which had been completed and ready for inauguration collapsed
at around 5.30am.
Some persons were reportedly injured, but there was no death recorded as the structure had yet to be occupied by pupils.
Governor Rauf Aregbesola had on Tuesday
at his campaign rally in Ede listed the new school as one of the most
beautiful schools in the country.
The administration built the school following the introduction of school restructuring by the incumbent governor.

MAN CAUGHT WITH HUMAN CORPSE
The Police on Monday saved a young man from a mob action after he was caught with a corpse at Alaba International Market, Lagos.
It was gathered that the man was a cart
pusher at the market. He and his colleagues were said to be in the habit
of taking enhancement drugs because of the strenuous nature of their
job.
The deceased was also a cart pusher, had on Sunday fallen critically ill.
Because of the lack of necessary medical attention, he was said to have
died on Monday. The colleague decided to dispose of the body and was
apprehended in the process.
Gunmen invade UNILAG, shoot student
Some
yet-to-be identified gunmen threw the University of Lagos, Akoka, Yaba,
Lagos, into chaos on Monday after they invaded the King Jaja Hall area
of the institution and shot at students.
Although it was not clear whether the
attack was carried out by cultists, our correspondent gathered that a
student was shot in the head in the mayhem.
The student, who was identified as
Sapara, was said to be a final year student of Philosophy. Eyewitnesses
said Sapara’s face was covered in blood after a bullet scraped the side
of his head.
It was learnt that the victim was
subsequently taken to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba,
where he was said to be in stable condition.
The incident, however, led to
pandemonium as students, who were sitting for their examination, ran in
different directions after the gunshot was heard.
Eyewitnesses said some Akokites (as the
students fondly called themselves) who were not at the vicinity of the
incident also sought safety in nearby lecture halls, while others fled
the campus.
FOUR NEW MINISTERS APPOINTED
President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday assigned portfolios to the four new ministers recently confirmed by the Senate.
The new ministers and their portfolios are: Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau -Minister of Education; Dr. Stephen Oru -Minister of Niger Delta Affairs; Mr. Adedayo Adeyeye -Minister of State, Works; and Dr. Abdul Bulama -Minister of Science and Technology.
Jonathan directed the erstwhile Minister of State, Works, Ambassador Bashir Yuguda, to take over Minister of State, Finance.
He also told him to continue supervising the Ministry of National Planning until a substantive minister is named.
The President made the announcements after swearing in the new ministers shortly before the commencement of the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting.
In his short remarks, he said the ministers’ appointment could not be described as enviable because they were brought in at a time when Nigerians expected a lot from them.

Keshi demands N10m-a-month contract –Report
Stephen Keshi has reportedly demanded a significant salary hike to sign a new contract to remain as Nigeria coach.

Police parade suspected baby factory operators in Rivers

Rivers State Police Command on Tuesday paraded three pregnant women and

Nigerian authorities, battling to stem an escalating Islamist insurgency, covered up a bomb attack in Lagos by claiming a blast near Folawiyo fuel depot was an industrial accident.
According to investigation the blast was actually a bomb blast.
The Lagos blast in the Apapa district which happened on 25 June, on the main road feeding Nigeria’s busiest port and in an area housing most of the city’s fuel depots, was blamed on a cooking gas cylinder which exploded, with no casualties.
But AFP has seen photographs of the scene showing a destroyed car plus damage to surrounding vehicles, which the British Army’s former head of bomb disposal said left no doubt as to the cause.
“This was definitely an incident involving the use of high explosives,” Bob Seddon, an Iraq and Afghanistan veteran and a specialist in improvised explosive devices (IEDs), told AFP in an email exchange after reviewing the images.

The case was filed by the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, which slammed a 16-count charge against four accused persons bordering on forgery of Companies TCCs, forgery of signatures of officials of the tax agency, and forgery of official rubber stamp of officials of the agency.
The documents were allegedly forged to enable the monarch travel abroad but detected by the British Embassy officials.
