Death toll from Borno attack hits 100

The number of deaths resulting from the Friday early morning attack by Boko Haram insurgents in a Borno village has risen to 100 just as the terrorists hoisted a black and white flag in the remote village.
On Saturday, survivors claimed the insurgents had attacked the town of Damboa before dawn on Friday, firing rocket-propelled grenades, throwing locally produced bombs into homes and gunning down people as they tried to escape the ensuing fires.

Police corporal, wife, two others arrested for child trafficking


Children are gifts from God and blessings to beautify marriages, but two women and a police corporal in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, descended into the abominable by turning them into tradeable commodities. But they are now gnashing their teeth in regret in police custody, following their arrest by men of the Anti-Vice and Child Trafficking Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department of the Rivers State Police Command.

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole and his Rivers State counterpart, Mr. Chibuike Amaechi, have said they are not losing sleep over the alleged plot by President Goodluck Jonathan to push for their impeachment.
The duo said the Presidency and the Peoples Democratic Party could not impeach them as the case of a former governor of Adamawa State, Alhaji Murtala Nyako.
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, had at a press conference on Wednesday alleged that Jonathan and the PDP were out to remove the governors of Edo, Nasarawa, Osun, Borno and Rivers states.

A Malaysia Airlines passenger jet which crashed as it flew over eastern Ukraine with 295 people on board was reportedly shot down, Al Jazeera reports.
The aircraft, which was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, was travelling at an altitude of 10,000 metres when it was shot down on Thursday, Russia’s Interfax reported.
An adviser to the Ukrainian interior ministry told the news agency the Boeing 777 was brought down by a Buk ground-to-air missile.

For 13-year-old Miss Chidera Onuoha, life has been very cruel. The young girl lost her right leg to cancer of the bone two years ago. The leg was amputated from the thigh in April 2012.
But another calamity struck Chidera two months ago. Her father passed on at a time the family was looking for money so that she could complete her post-surgery treatment for cancer.
As gathered from her medical reports, Chidera, who hails from Uzoakoli in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, still has some cancerous cells in her body. It was further learnt that she must undergo radiotherapy for the post surgery treatment. She currently needs N1.5 million to complete the treatment.
In an encounter with Daily Sun at a recent programme, organised by the Children Living With Cancer Foundation (CLWCF), at the Avi-Cenna Schools in Ikeja, Lagos State, she said: “I thank God that I survived the bone cancer. I also believe that God will use Nigerians to preserve my life. I need to complete my treatment and medical advice stated that I would need N1.5 million for the treatment.”

US VOWS TO CRUSH BOKO HARAM

The United States of America has once again voiced out that its fight towards ending the Boko Haram siege of the North East of Nigeria is total. This was made public by US Assistant Secretary, Bureau of African Affairs, Ms Linda Thomas- Greenfield in a live interview with journalists.According to the US envoy, "I was surprised I didn’t get a question on Boko Haram and the seizure of the girls earlier. As you know, both President Obama and Secretary Kerry indicated that we are going to work closely with the Government of Nigeria as well as countries in the region to do everything possible to bring these girls home. We are working with the Nigerian Government, both as – on the security side, but also in addressing broader issues related to the girls. We have a team, as you know, in Nigeria. The team is multi-agency. We have individuals there from the civilian side who can provide assistance on negotiations. We have individuals from USAID who are there to assist those girls who escape or the girls who are recaptured, to help them reintegrate back into their communities and into society.

BOKO HARAM: WE BOMBED LAGOS!

Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau has claimed re­sponsibility for two explosions at a fuel depot in Lagos on June 25, AFP re­ported yesterday.
The police had stated that the explosions were an acci­dent caused by a gas canister.
In a fresh video, Shekau, who was flanked by about 10 gunmen in front of two ar­mored personnel carriers and two pickup trucks, stated: “A bomb went off in Lagos. I or­dered (the bomber) who went and detonated it.”

Germany rules the world!

Germany last night defeated Argentina 1-0 to lift the 2014 FIFA World Cup compe­tition, thus winning the title for the fourth time. Mario Goetze’s became the hero for Germany after he came off the bench to score the winning goal 114th minute in a keenly contested final played at the magnificent Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeirio, the capital city of Brazil.
The two sides could not be separated in normal time, but Gotze scored in the second half of extra-time as Germany became the first European team to win the World Cup on South American soil.
Argentina had a half-chance inside four minutes when Gonzalo Higuain flashed an effort across goal, but there were no takers at the far post.

The Police said yesterday there is a ‘credible’ in­telligence infor­mation, indicating that terrorists are plotting to carry out fresh attacks in the Abuja motor parks.
Police Spokesman, Frank Mba, Assistant Commission­er of Police (ACP), said in a statement that the attacks, which are intended to cause panic amongst Abuja resi­dents and visitors alike are to be perpetrated through sui­cide bombings or through the use of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) concealed in luggage, bags, cans, and other receptacles.

The Police in Lagos on Saturday said they rescued a 10-year old boy and arrested one of the suspected kidnappers.
Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ngozi Braide, told NAN that three other suspects were arrested for cultism and armed robbery.
Braide said all the suspects were arrested in different parts of the state in the last five days.
She said that the policemen attached to Oworonshoki Division, on Monday rescued one Moses Idowu of Agbareju Street, Oworosoki, after one of the suspected kidnappers was arrested.
“One of the suspected kidnappers was mobbed by angry youths in the area, while others escaped before the police arrested him.

They have taken on the male, full-time housekeeper to help with the general running of the £40million family home.
And they have significantly boosted the former footman`s previous £15,000 a year salary to secure a pedigree employee.
A source said: “They needed a new housekeeper and, hands down, he was the best applicant.
His CV was pretty impressive and, obviously, having a former Buckingham Palace member of staff is quite a boon.
