Like the saying goes, nothing is forever hidden under the sun. So after more than a decade that highly controversial pastor, politician, musician cum lawyer, Chris Okotie clandestinely destroyed his younger sister`s musical career the real cause for Loreen Okotie`s ill famous exit from the musical space has been put at the doorstep of her celebrity elder brother.
Information that was released to TNS revealed how Chris Okotie paid his former staff to threaten Loreen to drop his(the staff) songs from her intended second album and that became the straw that broke the camel`s back.
According to the former staff, " When his sister was becoming more popular than him he told me personally how he would go to places where they would say this is Chris Okotie, the brother to Loreen Okotie. That he could not handle. And twenty years after she has not been able to release an album."
He explained further, "Okotie gave me money to sue the younger sister. I didnt know what was going on then. I was producing the younger sister`s album. Then they were having a quarrel and I think he wanted to reach out to her but he needed to use somebody and I was his tool at that point in time, because he knew that I had a little problem with the sister. So he gave me money to sue her not to use my songs since she was using three of my songs. It was about N10,000 as of that time. I got a lawyer, wrote to tell them to stop the use of my songs or that I will take them to court. Okotie then went behind to tell everyone he was going to settle the matter. He said he would give me N20,000 and take over the sister`s production and reconciled with her.
But only for the recording to start he abandoned the project. That was when I realised he never wanted to see this lady make it musically. That was how the production was killed. He killed Loreen`s career. Loreen is a very good singer, one of the top most gospel singer then. She cannot come out again." .
The Speaker concluded, "The reason is that he just cannot handle the fact that somebody else is shinning. That is why Loreen's first album was not actually sponsored by him yet he took all the credit. People thought he was the one that did it. Other people did it and he took all the credit.
If he is not going to take the pre-eminence in anything he is not going to do it. This is the reason till today a church like Household has not been able to produce one gospel musician. Not one. Look at it! Show me one gospel musician that can say I was produced and I came out of the Household. You can see Sammie Okposo from the House On The Rock. Kunle Ajayi from Redeemed. Which one comes from Household, for Pastor Chris is supposed to a music genius. No protegee."
