The Deputy Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Festus Ebea, on Sunday said that his convoy was attacked by unknown gunmen near Abudu in the Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State.

Ebea said that himself; the Edo Assembly Minority Leader, Emmanuel Okoduwa; and Patrick Iluobe, were on their way to Benin City, the Edo State capital, from Esan in the Edo Central Senatorial District, when the assailants accosted them around 1pm.

The Akwa Ibom Police Command has arrested 63 persons, suspected to be members of ‘Black Axe,’ a cult group. DSP Etim Dickson, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), announced this while briefing newsmen in Uyo. He said that the suspected cult members were arrested during their initiation at Effoi village forest, near Eket.The police image maker said that some of the items recovered from the cultists include two locally-made pistols, five live cartridges, two axes and two drums. Other items are five black berets with ‘Aye’ insignia, three cars, one bus, two motorcycles, 10 cell phones; and a contain, containing substance suspected to be blood.He said that all the suspects confessed to being members of ‘Black Axe’ adding that they would be charged to court soon. “All the suspects will be charged to court. You know the activity of cult group is becoming too rampant,’’ Dickson said. He appealed to members of the public to volunteer information about criminal activities in their area to the police for prompt action.

Soldiers yesterday in Kaduna briefly detained the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, insisting his official car must be searched before he could be allowed into an international conference where he was due to deliver a speech.Angered by the conduct of the soldiers, the Speaker came out of the car and trekked into the venue.The incident occurred at Hotel 17, venue of an International conference on security and development challenges of pastoralism in West and central Africa organized by the office of the National Security Adviser.The Speaker, who arrived the venue of the gathering at exactly 9.16 am for the 10.00 am opening ceremony, had his convoy stopped by soldiers who insisted they must search his official car before he could be allowed into the venue.

It’s Official! Dan Foster Quits Inspiration Fm

One of Inspiration Fm’s prominent staff, Dan Foster who left Cool Fm, to be with them in 2009 has quit. A lot of his fans have been wondering why Dan hasn’t been on air, and there were unconfirmed reports that he had resigned from the radio station.

Anyway, Dan has let the big cat out of the bag this morning, when he took to his twitter page to announce his new programme on radio with City Fm. Dan appealed to his fans to tune into the radio station and listen to his programme which would run every morning from 6am – 10am, weekdays. According to Sudan's SUNA news agency, Meriam Ibrahim, the Sudanese woman sentenced to death for refusing to abandon her christian faith is to be released soon. The state media today announced that the appeal court has ruled that she be immediately freed and all charges against her dropped.

"The appeal court ordered the release of Mariam Yahya and the cancellation of the (previous) court ruling," Sudan's SUNA news agency said.

Nigeria security forces have arrested a suspect in connection with the bomb blast that happened this afternoon at the School of Hygiene, BUK Road in Kano at least eight people lost their lives with 12 others sustaining various degrees of injury.

Confirming the arrest, Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adenrele Shinaba said investigations will begin immediately

"The suspect is in our custody, and the vehicle he used for the operation has also been towed to the police headquarters. We will get to know the motive behind the attack, and who sent him on this deadly errand." he said

Dr. Bukola Saraki

Former Kwara State governor and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has asked President Goodluck Jonathan to live up to expectation of Nigerians because he could lose re-election next year if he failed to do the will of the people.

Saraki said the outcome of the just-concluded governorship election in Ekiti State, in which the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, trounced the incumbent governor and the candidate of the APC, Mr. Kayode Fayemi, was a signal that the President could lose re-election in 2015.

The former governor, who is currently a senator, said in a statement on Sunday that Fayose’s triumph was a victory for democracy and for the people of Ekiti State.

He said, “It is important that around the clock, people want to be engaged. This should also serve as a lesson to Mr. President that as an incumbent it is very possible to lose in Nigeria if he fails to do the will of the people.

The Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar El-Kanemi, said on Sunday that 14, out of 59 district heads in his kingdom, had been killed by the terrorist Islamic sect, Boko Haram.

El-Kanemi said the traditional institution in the North had become the target of the terrorists because the monarchs had been cooperating with security agents in dealing with the insurgents.

The Shehu, who is also the Chancellor of the Niger Delta University, spoke in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, when he visited Governor Seriake Dickson, a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Mr. Daniel Iworiso-Markson, said.

He said the insurgents could not claim to be fighting the cause of Islam.

Nollywood star actress Nkeiru Sylvanus is set to premiere her latest movie, The Voice, as she returned to her first love acting, after a long hiatus. The premiere comes up on July 13^th 2014 at the prestigious Oriental Hotel, Lekki Lagos. Red Carpet starts 5pm.

However there was a mystery surrounding the shoot of the movie. It was that while Nkeiru and her crew were shooting in Owerri, the Imo state capital in 2012 she and Kenneth Okolie who played the lead with her were kidnapped in real life. In the story line for The Voice, Nkeiru was to be kidnapped by Kenneth Okolie. Both artistes were eventually held hostage by the kidnappers for 9 days.

Nkeiru who shot the remaining part of the movie after they were released by their captors explained, "We continued with the movie, with Kenneth and I having learnt a lot from our captors. This was helpful to us in our role interpretation."

The Voice is written and directed by Afe Olumowe and produced by Nkeiru.
Other casts include Betty Njoku-Olumowe, Larry Briggs, Edwards Fom, and Daniel Lloyed.

The acting chief operations officer of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), Hlaudi Motsoeneng is under probe for accepting a 22 year old who was given to him as a gift. (girl circled).

According to local media, Motsoeneng was given the young woman, along with a cow and a calf, by a lobby group of traditional leaders in Thohoyandou, in Limpopo province, who are seeking greater exposure of their culture.

A Soweto-based newspaper reported last week that about 10 half-naked women were lined up and Motsoeneng was asked to pick one. He picked a human resources management student named Vanessa Mutswari.
