A 20-year-old woman was gang-raped, killed and hanged from a tree in Pakistan in a case that bears a chilling resemblance to a double rape and murder that caused outrage in neighbouring India last month.
Pakistani police said Muzammil Bibi was attacked by three men in a field in the impoverished Layyah area of densely populated Punjab province.
Senior officer Sadaqat Ali Chohan said: 'This is the first time in my 22 years of service in the police that I have seen such a case, where a girl was raped in this way and found hanging from a tree.

The late mogul’s children, some of his associates and religious leaders including the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Chief Kola Daisi, Mr. Oba Otudeko, Chief Ebenezer Obey, Justice Bola Babalakin, Gen. David Jemibewon, Gen. Raji Rasaki, Chief Yekini Adeojo, Senator Teslim Folarin, Chief Rotimi Akeredolu were also present to receive the body, after which it was taken to the Lekan Salami Sports Complex.

Police charge 12 APC supporters with terrorism

 

Funminiyi Afuye: charged with terrorismAhead of the forthcoming governorship election in Ekiti state, southwest Nigeria, the federal government has slammed a three count charge of terrorism against 12 All Progressives Congress, APC, supporters including a serving commissioner under Governor Kayode Fayemi, who is gunning for a second term of office.
The men were arrested during a recent violent clash between supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party and the APC in Ekiti, during which a man identified as Peter Akin was killed with many vehicles and properties destroyed.

Terror kingpin detected among nabbed suspects – DHQ

The Defence Headquarters, DHQ, on Tuesday said a terror kingpin was detected in the ongoing screening of some arrested 486 suspects.
This was contained in a statement by the Director of Defence Information, Chris Olukolade, who said the kingpin was in the ist of wanted terrorists in Nigeria.
The name of the detected suspected terrorist was however not provided.
The suspects were nabbed along Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway while traveling in over 33 Hiace Hummer buses at night on June 15.
Mr. Olukolade said the identified terror kingpin has been taken into custody and that further development would be communicated in due course.
He said that so far, other security agencies, including the para-military, have joined in the screening exercise to ascertain the status of the remaining suspects.
He added that those identified as possible security risk or illegal immigrants would be separated from their colleagues for further action.

75 Awaiting-Trial Prisoners Regain Freedom In Lagos

Justice Ayotunde Phillips, the Chief Judge of Lagos State, on Tuesday granted parole to 75 inmates awaiting trial at the Kirikiri Medium and Maximum Prisons in Lagos.
Justice Phillips released the inmates during an inspection tour of the detention facilities ahead of her retirement. The retiring judge is scheduled to step down from the bench on July 25, 2014.

Boko Haram militants attack football viewing center in Damaturu

Boko Haram men this evening attacked a football viewing center in Damaturu, Yobe State during a live football match between Brazil and Mexico in the ongoing world cup in Brazil.

The sect men reportedly hauled explosives at the viewing center, injuring several people. Injured people were rushed to nearby hospitals.

Yobe state Police commissioner told AFP that they have deployed policemen to the scene and will give details on the incident later...

First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan,  may have travelled to Germany for a fresh medical check-up.
According to a competent source, Mrs. Jonathan may have gone to Germany where she is expected to undergo medical examination at St Joseph Hospital, Wiesbadan.
Although details of the expected medical examinations were not clear is at press time, a source revealed that it is a follow-up to the series of operations the First Lady had in 2013.
According to the source, ‘as I speak to you, the First Lady will leave for Germany and will be taken to St Joseph Hospital in Wiesbadan. Already, embassy officials in Germany are busy and the Presidency is trying to ensure that this trip does not go viral, like the last one. Drug Mafia Kills 3 NDLEA Operatives In Ogun State


People suspected to be drug mafia on Sunday, killed three operatives of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), in Owode-Yewa, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The victims were officers attached to the state command of the agency. The gang, it was gathered unleashed terror on the anti-drug agents, who had gone to the area on an operation, following a tip-off that drug dealers operated in the area.

The drug dealers, the Nigerian Tribune gathered were suspected to be behind the large supply of the drugs to some states in the South-West.
They were said to have laid ambushed for the NDLEA officers, who were said to be on the raid of the area and killed three of them.
The incident was confirmed by NDLEA’s Public Relations Officer in Ogun state, Mr Abdullahi  Sarduana.

Barely two months after abducting over 200 schoolgirls from Chibok, Borno State, the militant Islamic sect, Boko Haram, has written to the people of the community to watch out for their next visit.
A highly-placed official of the Chibok Local Government Area, who made this known to journalists on Thursday, said   that in the letter, the insurgents warned Chibok would soon be visited with terror.
He however said that the letter had been shown to police authorities who assured them of maximum protection.
The official, who did not want his name in print, said in spite of the   assurances by the police, the people were living in ‘‘great fear.’’
He said, “Everyone in the LGA believes that   the sect cannot be   pocketed by security men. The letter has further worsened their fear.
“Whenever Boko Haram tells you that they are coming, they will never fail to do so. Our fear now is that, we don’t know when and how they are going to come but our people are in great fear. We are calling for prayers as well as on government to provide adequate security in Chibok.”

There was heightened fear in parts of the South-East on Monday as news spread that hundreds of persons suspected to be Boko Haram members were arrested in Abia State.
The suspects, including eight women, were said to have been arrested along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway by soldiers attached to the 144 Battalion of the Nigerian Army, Asa in the Ukwa West Local Government Area on Sunday.
Their arrest occurred some hours after security operatives detonated improvised explosive devices planted on the premises of a branch of the Living Faith World Bible Church (a.k.a. Winners Chapel) in Owerri, Imo State.

The sad part is that colleagues, friends and relations are usually embarrassed to tell the person concerned that he/she has such a problem. They are just not able to go that far, thinking that such comments can hurt the person. In such a situation they will hope that one day, the individual will find out, one way or the other. When you summon up courage to tell them, they are usually not aware of the issue.

The Founder of the Deeper Life Church Ministry, Pastor Williams F. Kumuyi has featured in a £1 million thriller Christian movie titled Snare, where he played a role of a pastor. The movie, Snare which has been in the making since 2010 is dedicated to late Hubert Adedeji Ogunde, a Nigerian actor, playwright, theatre manager and musician who died 24 years ago.
Speaking about the movie, David Adekunle Ogunde said; Snare is actually based on a couple, particularly one gentleman, an African who is brilliant, who is lured because of the flaw in his character, even though he wants to change the society.
He looks at the society as poor and also full of diseases and sicknesses, so he decided that he wanted to change that. But he has a flaw in his character and that flaw is greed, the love of money.
Snare, was shot with world-class actors; both Nigerian and international actors such as Branston Cosby, Steven Baldwin and Phil Tan Carl Cameron amongst others.

Another Musician Dies After 10 Days In Coma

Another Nigerian artiste has died after few days in coma. Lee Fagbemi a Nigerian rapper based in the US popularly known as Mr. Flint died Tuesday, 3rd of June in the US after 10 days in coma. Lee is an indigene of Ogun State and the first child in a family of 5,. Sadly Lee died four days to his birthday this year.

During his life time, he worked with prominent Nigerian musicians such as Sound Sultan, Olamide and few others on some tracks.

Taraba: 40 killed in sectarian violence


No fewer than 40 people were killed in an inter tribal sectarian strife, which engulfed Wukari town of Taraba state. Several others we also said to have been wounded while many houses were razed to the ground.
Our correspondent gathered that trouble started in the early hours of Sunday when some people suspected to be Muslim youths descended on the town killing anybody on sight and burning houses.
Security sources said there has been rumour of attack in Wukari since June 10, 2014 thus raising tention and apprehension among residents.

25 TRADERS KILLED IN ANOTHER BORNO VILLAGE MARKET ATTACK


Not less than 25 persons were reportedly killed in a market in Askira Uba local government area of Borno state when gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists attacked on Sunday morning, residents and security official said.
The gunmen who invaded the village called Daku, about 30km away from Chibok town, where over 200 schoolgirls were abducted, stormed the town in their usual style.
“It was about 11a.m when they drove in top speed into our market in Daku and they began to shoot at us”, said Naaba Ijaya, a trader who spoke to journalist on phone in Hausa after escaping the attack.
“We had to run when we got to know that they were Boko Haram people; many people may have been killed, and many others were injured, but one cannot tell how many of them”, he said.
Witnesses said the suspected Boko Haram gunmen stormed the village in one Toyota Hilux and several motorcycles.

The dramatic news was announced by his manager Sabine Kehm who said Schumacher had left CHU Grenoble 'to continue his long phase of rehabilitation'.

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos says he named the garden park at Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, after former Military Administrator of Lagos State, Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu (Rtd) because of his exploit during the struggle for the actualisation of the 12 June, 1993 presidential mandate.
The Lagos state governor commissioned the garden park last Thursday as part of the  activities organised to  mark the June 12 celebration in remembrance of the late Moshood Abiola, won the 12 June, 1993 presidential election but was annulled by the then Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida.
 According to Fashola, there could be no better day to celebrate the men and women who stood to be counted at that dark moment in the history of their country while some sold the common collective decision of the people to the agents of darkness.
He added that as Nigerians remember the day their r collective will was murdered, they must remain vigilant.

6 Shot Dead As Kidnappers, Police Engage In Gun Battle


Six suspected kidnappers were killed on Sunday during a gun battle with the  operatives of Edo State Police Command along Igbanke-Ewohimi Road in Esan, South East Local Government Area of the state in southern Nigeria.

BREAKIING NEWS: 63 Cult Members Arrested

 

The Akwa Ibom Police Command has arrested 63 persons, suspected to be members of ‘Black Axe,’ a cult group.
DSP Etim Dickson, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), announced this while briefing newsmen in Uyo.
He said that the suspected cult members were arrested during their initiation at Effoi village forest, near Eket, on Sunday.
The police image maker said that some of the items recovered from the cultists include two locally-made pistols, five live cartridges, two axes and two drums.
Other items are five black berets with ‘Aye’ insignia, three cars, one bus, two motorcycles, 10 cell phones; and a container containing a substance suspected to be blood.
He said that all the suspects confessed to being members of ‘Black Axe’, adding that they would be charged to court soon.
“All the suspects will be charged to court. You know the activity of cult group is becoming too rampant,” Dickson said.
He appealed to members of the public to provide information about criminal activities in their area to the police for prompt action.

Nuella Njubigbo and Tchidi Chikere expecting their first child

According to sources close to the couple, actress Nuella Njubigbo and her husband movie producer Chidi Tchikere are expecting their first child. Nuella is said to be in the early stages of her pregnancy.
"Yes she's pregnant and they are very excited. They are so in love and so happy together. She's not showing yet because she's in her first trimester."
Chidi and Nuella tied the knot in a traditional ceremony on March 29th but did their introduction in January 2014. This will be Chidi's fourth child as he has 3 boys with his ex-wife. Congrats to them.
