Not
minding the barrage of naughty names so far labeled Africa`s biggest movie
industry, Nollywood, a seasoned director with MNET, Alex Mouth has added his
own name calling. To this, he nicknamed the industry, as lacking in creativity.
In
the words of the Head of Media, Afrowood Production, a subsidiary of MNET, the
multiple awards winning director stated, “The industry from the marketers’
point of view is only interested in making movies. They are not bothered about
creativity. They are not bothered about how good you are with your work. All
they wanted was a different film in three or four days then they move on to
another thing. From the onset, even while I was just starting I have been a man
that has his eyes on details. I always wanted to be specific with my job and
wanting them to speak for me.”
On quality of production, the Ebonyi State
born film maker and alumni of the University of Jos went lectured, “I think we
are doing well. We are picking up, trying to do more quality jobs. Thank God
for DSTV. Now pictures are better than they used to be. The price of equipment
is coming down and people are starting to afford them to make their movies.
Creativity; that I believe will come gradually. We have some creative directors
that I have met. They have their limitations too. They have cash constrains
too. So I think that we are growing, maybe slow but we are growing.”
Alex
also did not also relent in his assertion while commenting on Nigeria`s actors
who love to take their movie acting to real life situations, “That is so true.
We have our own personal controversies. There are actors who get carried away
by the roles they play. That was even parts of the reasons I had to pull out. I
don’t want to go borrow a suite because I want to boost up my image. Or go
borrow a car to boost up my image on Television. I want to be me all the time.
If I can’t afford this car I would not take it. There is no one more than me
who believes making your way to the top. There are those that believe because
they had a gangster role in a movie, they should start walking like a gangster.
Hollywood actors don’t live that life aside what we see on Television. We have
those kinds of people and they exit. We also have the kind of people that are
extremely shy. There are musicians that are very shy too. When it comes to
Television they act as they are everything but shy. It is a re –enactment.”
